The Backbones Are:
Explosive, committed, sweet and soulful. That?????s how you could describe the new formation of The Backbones. Previously working as a modular blues collective, they now have taken some of their most committed personnel and added some members of the famous Dutch blues band Drippin????? Honey and The Lost Souls for this creation. Some of you may know the Backbones as backing band for many USA artists, including Mitch Kashmar, Hook Herrera, Moster Mike Welch and many others. Front man Big Pete is taking this group of the strongest Dutch blues players deep into the blues! This band is willing and able to bring 50ies Chicago blues, packaged in a fresh, rocking format. They will be playing originals and covers, and we?????re betting you won?????t know the difference! All individuals in the band are rooted in the blues, but are not ???retro????? . Don?????t forget that Muddy Waters was a young guy doin????? somethin????? new back in the day!!!! So if you are looking for a powerful, fun and guaranteed houserockin????? band, get the Backbones!!

Nederlands bluestrots The Backbones heeft zojuist een mini-cd uitgebracht met de titel ???Two Track Wonders???. Een titel die de spijker op zijn kop slaat, want deze cd is geheel in twee sporen opgenomen. Nu zal menig bluesliefhebber zeggen: dat zal dan wel te horen zijn????????????? Nou dan hebben zij het in ieder geval mis. Want ???Two Track Wonders??? klinkt goed?????. buitengewoon goed.
Omdat er maar zeven nummers op staan is het inderdaad een mini-cd, echter eentje die wel groots uitpakt met geweldige covers van o.a.: Otis Span; Jr. Wells , Frank Frost en Elmore James.
De heren ???Big Pete??? van der Pluijm; Joost Tazelaar; Jules van Brakel; Sander Kooiman en Govert van der Kolm pakken al direct uit met het spetterende ???I?????am In Love With You, Baby????? van Otis Spann en daar houdt het niet mee op, want ze blijven olie op het vuur gooien.
Buiten het goede harpspel van Big Pete beschikt hij over een bijzondere vette bluesstem die hier uitermate geschikt voor is. Dat blijkt ook uit Junior Wells????? nummer ???Love Me?????.
Nog een dergelijk mooie song is: ???Stranger Blues????? van Elmore James een heerlijke slowblues uivoering die ???Two Track Wonders??? passend afsluit.
Het is een schitterende cd die bij mij respect oproept voor deze band. Maar er staat dan ook wel een brok kwaliteit bij elkaar waar je een puntje aan kunt zuigen. Niet voor niets heeft de band met de groten der groten in de bluesscene op het podium gestaan of cd-opnames gemaakt. Deze vijf muzikale vrienden hebben met veel plezier in een paar uur tijd deze schitterende cd in elkaar gezet. En dat ze vrienden zijn straalt er vanaf bij ieder nummer weer. Het klinkt lekker recht voor zijn raap, blues zoals blues hoort te zijn. |

The story of this 7 track album is so great: "On a late saturdaynight in Belgium in between sets in a small
bluesclub just outside Bruxelles, Big Pete receives a phonecall from his friend Rob Van Boekel at the New Road Studios in Holland. the band that had booked the studio had split up, which ment there was a good weekend of recording to be wasted."
To make this story a little shorter...: Pete told his band mates about this, and after the set they packed up their gear, made the trip to Holland and started recording. The result: this new album with 7 great blues tracks. With songs from Otis Spann, Junior Wells, John Brim, Frank Frost, Lowell Fulson and Elmore James.
In fact this is what "The Backbones" are, Europes most versatile blues band. They have worked with: Mitch Kashmar, "Monster" Mike Welch, Hook Herrera, Matt Schofield, Dede Priest, Alex Schultz and many others. This album proves that they are "Simply The Best".
